Our World Menopause Day seminar makes the local news
World Menopause Day
To celebrate this momentous event, both as a mark in the diary, not to mention its significance in every woman’s life, we held a seminar yesterday at the #Catalyst building to discuss all things menopause.
Claire Robinson, Cluster Manager – Internet of Caring Things (IoCT) at The UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing explained the story behind her setting up #FemTechNorth. #FemTech is the term that encompasses the emerging range of digital technologies focused specifically on women’s health.
Karen Ross Professor of Gender and Media at Newcastle University presented and discussed her exhibit entitled ‘Blood, Bone, Crone’; which she hopes will challenge the stigma and stereotypes that still surround menopause.
The event was rounded off nicely with a rousing rendition of the Menopause Song which they’d only written that very morning!
A great day and a key, iconic occasion to come together and discuss something that half of the population go through directly but something which affects us all in various ways.
We were very honoured to have BBC News Look North present to film proceedings and both Claire and Karen were more than happy to say a few words on screen.
