NICA put Newcastle on the Smart City map this month at the world’s largest conference for smart cities in Barcelona.

While discussing with several stakeholders, including Carles Campuzano i Canadès Minister of Social Rights at the Government of Catalunya, about NICA’s flagship programme “Longevity City” our director Nicola Palmarini  also took part in a panel discussion about designing technology to tackle inequality. Alongside him were Liverpool City Council Mayor Joanne Anderson, the CIO of the City of Tel Aviv, Israel and the CIO of the City of Bogota, Colombia.

The Smart City Expo World Congress saw cities from across the globe sharing the challenges their businesses, citizens and communities face and looking at how innovation and technology can help solve them.

More than 20,000 people from 134 countries attended the conference. Newcastle was the only English city to exhibit at the event and NICA the only Innovation Centre dedicated to Ageing to take the stage.
