NICA and VOICE celebrate International Women's Day.

International Women’s Day this year was all about embracing equity. We held a networking and interactive coffee morning with a difference.

NICA and VOICE celebrate International Women’s Day

The focus of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) was #EmbraceEquity. This means a world where we embrace equity in all that we do. We all want to live in a world free from discrimination of all kinds; one that is inclusive for everyone. International Women’s Day was a chance for everyone to come together and work towards these common goals.

The day was a riot of colour with the IWD purple appearing on all manner of things from balloons to cupcakes.  There were three stands, to coincide with three of the themes of International Women’s Day.

 Women and Creatives:

The creative team at NICA showcased their travelling exhibition, called “Flip the script.” Opening at London’s Biennale in June 2023, the exhibition is designed to share how together we can challenge the deeply embedded and conventional views on ageing.

In this interactive sculpture, NICA is sharing stories from people who are challenging the stories of ageing, sharing the wisdom they want to pass on and ask how they will keep on growing for the future. The team are doing this by creating a tactile wall of hands, sharing stories of frustrations, wisdom and future looking.  People were invited to get their hands dirty in skin alginate and share their stories.

Women’s Health – Menopause

Menopause is something that happens to every woman, but do people really know what it’s really all about? Our Menopause Champion was on hand to challenge common misperceptions regarding this stage of life and to share experiences of how to manage symptoms.

Women in Sport

We have lots of work going on behind the scenes in this area as sport is one area where women really do feel the lack of support and inclusion. With this in mind, NICA is working with MisFit who is taking Kymira sportswear to another level.

MisFit wants to make sure that all garments are smart; equipped with sensors and pressure points to capture data as women work out. The information gathered will then influence and educate about injuries and both the nature and length of exercise regime. Women have been misrepresented in sport and fitness for too long and need clothes and regimes suited to their bodies and strengths. What NICA wants to do is bring all this together and provide the insights needed from real people – real women in our VOICE community. Women who will give honest and clear feedback to help shape the sporting future of us all.

International Women’s Day gave us all a lot of food for thought and it was heart-warming to see so many people at the event.

Let’s keep going. #EmbraceEquity.
