Greater Manchester LEP

The region is home to three universities with strengths in Healthy Ageing Research and Development. They offer several postgraduate courses which have a focus on healthy ageing: MSc Dementia Care APIMH and MSc Neuroscience (University of Manchester), MSc Adult Nursing and MSc Advanced Physiotherapy (Manchester Metropolitan University) and MSc Dementia (University of Salford).

Liverpool LEP

Liverpool- Liverpool City Region LEP

Liverpool City Region boasts a range of talent and skills to tackle healthy ageing. It is home to three major universities and 55,000 students: University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University. There are a further 10 universities in or close to the city region and 210,555 students studying at Higher Education Institutions within 30 miles, including Edge Hill University and Liverpool Life Sciences University Technical College. The Liverpool 5G Consortium (a group of small health technology developers, NHS, social care organisations and universities, led by Sensor City), received £3.5 million from the government to help deliver the government’s 5G strategy.

Newcastle – North East LEP

The region is home to two universities which have strengths in Healthy Ageing Research: Newcastle University and Northumbria University at Newcastle. As one of the largest trusts in the UK, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offer a wider range of specialist services than any other. Research topics include ageing, as well as related areas of genetics, cancer, diabetes and neurosciences. The Trust also houses the Newcastle Brain Tissue Resource, one of just six UK city locations used for the Brains for Dementia Research project.

The LEP Network champions the impact and value of LEPs in building local economic growth and prosperity across the country. It acts as the lead commentator and negotiator for LEPs at a national level with government, advisers, businesses, academia, think tanks and other target audiences. It also acts as a central source of information and data on LEPs at a national level.

Northern Ireland LEP

Northern Ireland’s life and health sciences sector is comprised of approximately 130 companies employing around 7,500 people and generating sales of approximately £800 million per annum. A significant proportion of the companies in the sector deal in pharmaceuticals, medical devices and solutions (screening, imaging etc.) but diagnostics, clinical trials and agri-health are also well represented. The sector is estimated to account for 12.5% of total Northern Ireland R&D.

Scotland LEP

Scotland has world leading infrastructure to support the development of future health and social care solutions. A unique property portfolio ranges from dedicated life science parks such as the Edinburgh BioQuarter and BioCity to Centres of Excellence in healthy ageing such as the Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology (CCACE) and the Centre for Regenerative Medicine.
