DeepMind

DeepMind is the world leader in AI research and its application for positive impact. From using AI software to study how proteins fold to training machine learning systems to identify eye diseases, they are at the forefront of developing AI for the Healthcare sector. They were acquired by Google in 2014 and are now part of the Alphabet group. They continue to be based in London, with additional research centres in Canada, and a DeepMind Applied team in California.

DSDC is funded by charitable sources. It draws on international research and practice to provide a comprehensive resource on all aspects of dementia. It aims to improve the lives of people living with dementia through care and design, influencing policy and improving services for people with dementia.

Dorset LEP

Dorset LEP

Dorset is at the forefront of innovative new technologies in health, welfare and ageing. 28.3% of the Dorset population is aged 65 and over where the UK average is 18%. Dorset, with its innovative Integrated Care System, is placed within the environs of a ‘living laboratory’ with a unique ageing demographic similar to where the rest of the world will be in 2050. The Care Sector is one of the leading sectors of Dorset’s economy and they are home to a number of care companies including Agincare, St Jude’s Care and Care South.

The LEP Network champions the impact and value of LEPs in building local economic growth and prosperity across the country. It acts as the lead commentator and negotiator for LEPs at a national level with government, advisers, businesses, academia, think tanks and other target audiences. It also acts as a central source of information and data on LEPs at a national level.

The EM3 region is at the leading edge of health research and innovation with two leading universities (University of Surrey and Royal Holloway, University of London), top clinical centres such as Frimley Park Hospital and the Royal Surrey County Hospital, the 5G Innovation Centre (the UK’s largest 5G research centre) and the Surrey Sleep Research Centre. This vibrant research and clinical community engages with local industry, which includes global industrial leaders and UK-based global players. The region also has a large number of start-ups and scale-ups, many of whom are based in science/research parks and enterprise zones such as the Southampton Science Park, the Surrey Research Park and the EZ3 Enterprise Zone.

Combining clinical research, ecology and evolutionary biology, molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, engineering, psychology and social science, the Network explores all the facets of ageing, from the mechanisms underlying it to how ageing impacts on the lives of people and animals.

GBS LEP

Greater Birmingham & Solihull LEP

The region’s universities have centres of excellence that support research concerning healthy ageing: Aston Research Centre for Healthy Ageing (ARCHA), University of Birmingham Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, Medawar Centre for Healthy Ageing Research and University of Warwick Institute of Digital Healthcare. The University of Birmingham also has the 1000 Elders Research Group.

Greater Lincolnshire LEP

Greater Lincolnshire is part of the largest Enterprise Zone in the UK, and is home to two universities, two university technical colleges and seven colleges of further education. The University of Lincoln will welcome their first medical students in 2019 to their new Medical School.
